Women of the Year 2020.
In the vast tapestry of life, some moments shimmer like stars—luminous, unforgettable, and charged with a profound sense of privilege. One such constellation in my journey unveiled itself when I received the honour of attending the Women of the Year event. As I sat there, virtually surrounded by some of the most inspiring women on the planet, I couldn’t help but marvel at the moment’s gravity. Little did I realize, at that time, the immense privilege bestowed upon me.
I found myself sharing a virtual table with women whose stories echoed resilience, courage, and a relentless pursuit of their dreams. Each narrative was a testament to the indomitable spirit that courses through the veins of these remarkable individuals. And yet, amidst this sea of empowerment, my own sense of imposter syndrome soared to new heights. The weight of being in the company of such greatness pressed heavily on my shoulders, overshadowing the realization that I, too, had been nominated for this extraordinary experience.
In the years that followed that awe-inspiring event, I embarked on a journey of inner exploration and self-discovery. Taming the persistent whispers of imposter syndrome required courage, introspection, and a commitment to rewriting the narrative that played in the recesses of my mind. It wasn’t an easy undertaking, but I peeled away the layers of self-doubt and insecurity with each step. It also led me to co-found International Imposter Syndrome Awareness Day alongside Lisa Ventura MBE and Nathaniel Schooler, to provide support and resources for others facing their imposter.
And now, three years on, I stand as a witness to the Women of the Year and a proud alumna—a testament to the transformative power of acknowledging one’s worth. The imposter that once roamed freely within me has been tamed, not silenced but a mere murmur in the background.
Today, as I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all those attending the Women of the Year awards, I recognize the collective impact being made by each woman in that virtual room. Your stories, struggles, and triumphs contribute to a narrative of strength, resilience, and empowerment. It is a celebration not just of individual achievements but a recognition of the ripple effect that inspiration can have on the world.
To the new members joining the ranks following today’s awards, welcome to a community of extraordinary women who continue to redefine the boundaries of possibility. May your journey be as transformative as mine, and may you find strength in the shared stories of those who have walked this path before you.
As I look back on that momentous day, I am grateful for the privilege I was given and the growth it catalyzed within me. The Women of the Year event is not just a ceremony; it’s a convergence of strength, a celebration of diversity, and a testament to the collective power of women who refuse to be confined by societal norms.
Here’s to the Women of the Year, past, present, and future—a luminous constellation of inspiration lighting up the sky for generations to come.
